Los Angeles – Barbara Billingsley has passed away. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Billingsley, who is most known for her role as June Cleaver in the classic 1950s television series “Leave it to Beaver,” died at her home Saturday after battling a long illness.

Tony Dow, who worked with Billingsley on the sitcom, portraying her son Wally, is quoted by the AP as saying of the actress in a statement Saturday, “America's favorite mother is now gone… I feel very fortunate to have been her "son" for 11 years. We were wonderful friends and I will miss her very much.”

Billingsley is quoted in the report as stating in 1994 of working on the popular sitcom, “We knew we were making a good show, because it was so well written… But we had no idea what was ahead. People still talk about it and write letters, telling how much they watch it today with their children and grandchildren.”
