San Diego – A federal judge has ordered a ban on the enforcement of “don’t ask, don’t tell.” As reported by the Associated Press (AP), U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips issued an injunction Tuesday, suspending the ban which was enacted during the Clinton administration.

As noted in the report, the judge’s ruling also called for a suspension on discharge proceedings and investigations that are currently pending.

Dan Woods, an attorney for gay rights group the Log Cabin Republicans, which brought forth the suit to stop enforcement of the ban in 2004, is quoted by the AP as stating of the ruling, “Don't ask, don't tell, as of today at least, is done, and the government is going to have to do something now to resurrect it… This is an extremely significant, historic decision. Once and for all, this failed policy is stopped. Fortunately now we hope all Americans who wish to serve their country can.”
