New York – National Public Radio chief executive Vivian Schiller recently expressed that she was sorry about how the dismissal of Juan Williams for his controversial remarks was handled, but stood by the decision to fire him. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Schiller sent members of the NPR staff an apology regarding the issue, stating Williams should have received a face to face meeting as opposed to being dismissed over the phone. Williams was recently let go from his long-term position after making controversial comments about Muslims on a Fox News Channel program.

Schiller is quoted by the AP as writing to staff members, “I stand by my decision to end NPR's relationship with Juan, but I deeply regret the way I handled it and explained it.”
