Paris – Television executives are gearing up to discuss the impact of social media and other digital innovations on the entertainment industry at MIPCOM 2010. As reported by AFP, many experts predict that technologies such as smartphones and social networks will usher in a new age of entertainment.

Gary Carter, chief operating officer at international production company FreemantleMedia, is quoted by AFP as stating of the shift, “The business model for the web has not yet emerged even while the business model on TV is shifting dramatically… The two big areas of exploration for FreemantleMedia in the last 12 months have been the use of our brands in social games and on social networks.”

MIPCOM 2010, a four-day event, is set to begin Monday on the French Riviera.
